Oakland, CA – Irene Sardanis, a retired psychologist turned accomplished writer, continues to captivate readers with her poignant and evocative storytelling. Born in New York City to Greek immigrant parents, Irene’s work reflects a rich tapestry of heritage, personal growth, and literary exploration.
Irene’s writing has graced the pages of The Sun literary magazine on five occasions, showcasing her ability to delve into the human experience with insight and compassion. Her work has also been featured in numerous anthologies, including The Magic of Memoir (2016). Her memoir chapter “Carmen Miranda” has been especially celebrated, earning her invitations to read at various events.
A dedicated learner and participant in the literary community, Irene has attended prestigious writing conferences across North America, including those in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Mendocino, California; Key West, Florida; and the Catamaran Writers Conference in Pebble Beach, California.
For the past 15 years, Irene has honed her craft in Elizabeth Fishel’s acclaimed Wednesday Women’s Writing classes and writer’s retreats at Mesa Refuge in Tomales Bay. Additionally, she has studied under literary luminaries such as Laura Davis, Charlotte Cook, and Mark Greenside, further refining her voice and skill.
When not writing, Irene resides in Oakland, California, with her supportive husband, John, drawing inspiration from her vibrant surroundings and close-knit community.

Irene Sardanis is a retired psychologist. She was born in New York to Greek immigrant parents. She has been published five times in Sun Literary magazine and in many anthologies, the most recent of which is The Magic of Memoir. Dr. Sardanis has attended writing conferences in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Mendocino, Pebble Beach, and Berkeley. Occasionally, she moonlights as a jazz vocalist. She resides in Oakland, California, with her wonderful husband, John.
